Today's Stardate
"In 1966, Gene Roddenberry introduced television to a brave new idea - Star Trek - a television series that would explore that human condition in the distant frontiers of the 23rd century. He envisioned a utopian future where humankind had outgrown its primitive biases. Races and cultures from throughout the galaxy worked side by side, and peace among worlds was advanced by a United Federation of Planets. The original voyages of the Starship Enterprise made television history with their mission to seek out new life in a continuing quest for greater knowledge. There adventures are now legendaryand have inspired [four] subsequent television series, [nine] motion pictues, as well as [a] very special collection of Star Trek information cards"
most of my facts are based off of this information cards, which include everything from the first four series and the first eight movies.

Sorry I haven’t posted in such a long time!

School started for me recently (as well as several clubs, including the Sci-fi club which I am running) so I’ve been really busy!

The amount of things I post will decrease but I will try to put stuff into the queue over the weekends

Thanks for the patience!

Mirror, Mirror

  • Mirror Spock: Captain, I do not wish to find myself opposing you. But if you continue on your present course, this confusing, inexplicable behavior -
  • Kirk: Is my concern, not yours. You would find me a formidable enemy.
  • Mirror Spock: I'm aware of that, Captain. I trust the you are aware of the reverse.
Mirror Universe Spock (from the episode Mirror, Mirror)
“There is another dimension, far from our own, where our universe is mirrored exactly…well, almost. In this dimension, the United Federation of Planets does not exist. Instead, much of the galaxy is caught in the iron grip of the Terran Empire, an organization of conquest. Starfleet exists, but its mission is one of terrorism on the Empire’s behalf. Strange, then, that one of the most distinguished officers of such a violent organization should be Mr. Spock, Vulcan First Officer and Science Officer of the I.S.S. Enterprise.”
”[…] Before leaving the mirror universe, Kirk accuses Spock of living an illogical existence. Spock is aware of this, already having calculated that the Empire has only about 240 years before its reign of terror creates galactic revolt. He agrees to ‘consider’ reform. Over the next several years, he takes action, assuming command of the Enterprise, championing a successful peace movement, and becoming the Empire’s commander-in-chief. Unfortunately, the resulting disarmamentprocedures leave the Empire open to conquest by a Cardassian - Klingon Alliance. The mirror Spock did all the ‘right’ things, but apparently at the wrong time. his ultimate fate is unkown, and to this date, it is assumed that humanity is still battling the Alliance.”

  • Kirk: If change is inevitable, predictable, beneficial, doesn't logic demand that you are part of it?
  • Mirror Spock: One man cannot summon the future.
  • Kirk: But one man can change the present!
Mister Spock (redone)
Commander Spock
“Mister Spock is the physical embodiment of the Vulcan IDIC philosophy - ‘Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations’ - for within him beats the heart of a human disciplined by the mind of a Vulcan. Capable of great compassion yet rigorously conditioned from birth to consider any displays of emotion to be ‘bad taste,’ Spock’s life has been a constant struggle to reconcile two opposing cultures. This internal dilemma might be enough to break some people, but not Spock. He found an enviroment where his mixed heritage would be an asset, and where his unique potential would grow to its fullest - Starfleet.”
“Spock was the first Vulcan to enroll in Starfleet Academy, and his father, Sarek, objected to this career choice. Their ensuing argument ignited a feud that kept father and son apart for 18 years. Spock graduated in 2253 and moved up the ranks until he was assigned to the U.S.S. Enterprise, first under the command of Captain Christopher Pike, then Captain James T. Kirk.
The warm friendship that developed between Spock and Kirk has become as legendary aws their career exploits. Quite a different brand of friendship developed between Spock and the Enterprise Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Leonard McCoy - their verbal sparring entertains not only them, but anyone within earshot as well.
Spock is an accomplished player of the Vulcan harp, and is known to play a mean game of 3-dimensional chess, usually with Kirk. He meditates regularly, as per Vulcan tradtition, and is a strict vegitarian (although he ate meat once when he was thrown back to the prehistoric ear of the planet Sarpeidon). Despite his human blood, he retains the abilities natural to all Vulcans: the ability to mind meld, utilize the paralyzing nerve pinch, and drop into a healing trance when necessary. He is also susceptible to the Pon farr mating frenzy, a biological trait he hoped he would not inherit.”

Deja Q

  • Picard: Return that moon to its orbit.
  • Q: I have no powers! Q the ordinary!
  • Picard: Q the liar. Q the misanthrope.
  • Q: Q the miserable! Q the desperate! What must I do to convince you people?
  • Picard: Die.
  • Q: Oh, very clever, Worf. Eat any good books lately?
Q
“An omnipotent with the whimsy of an imp, the temper of a child and the powers of a god, ‘Q’ is a being to be admired and feared - admired becuase he can give the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise-D adventure and knowledge beyond their wildest dreams, and feared becuase he all too often does. Q is one of the many entities who exist on aplane known as the Q Continuum. He displays unusual interest in humanity, Captain Jean-Luc Picard in particular, and thinks nothing of meddling in Enterprise-D missions. This both annoys and frightens Picard, for although Q can impart great wisdom, he is dangerous, often mean-spirited, and always unpredictable.”
“Q delights in pointing out ‘disgusting’ human habits like eating and sleeping and feeling emotions. Yet for all his complaints, he is fascinated be Picard. Data describes the relationship as being ‘similar to that of a master and his beloved pet.’
When Q is forced by the Continuum to live as a human, he confesses to Data that he just isn’t cut out to mingle with the masses. ‘I’m not good in groups. It’s difficult to work in a group when you’re omnipotent.’”

Star Trek - First Contact

  • Picard: If you see Commander Riker or any of my crew, give them this.
  • Sloane: What is it?
  • Picard: Orders to find a quiet corner of North America and stay out of history's way.
  • Sloane: Well, good luck.
  • Picard: To both of us.
  • Sloane: You're not leaving, are you?
  • Picard: Lily, when I was held captive on the Borg ship, my crew risked everything to save me. There is - someone still on this ship, and I owe him the same.
  • Sloane: Go and find your friend.

Unification, Part II

  • Spock: I was involved in "cowboy diplomacy" as you describe it, long before you were born.
  • Picard: Nevertheless, sir, I'm not prepared to leave until your efforts ae complete.
  • Spock: In your own way, you are as stubborn as another captain of the Enterprise I once knew.
  • Picard: Then I'm in good company, sir.

Who is your favorite Star Trek character?

Captain Jean-Luc Picard
“Captain Jean - Luc Picard - a driven explorer, an accomplished diplomat, a shrewd tactician and a remarkable leader - one of the best officers ever to serve in Starfleet. As commander of the U.S.S. Enterprise-D, the flagship of the United Federation of Planets, Picard has earned the undying loyalty of his crew as he leads them in their bold exploration of new lifeforms and new civilizations. Picard has an unfaltering belief in the worthiness of mankind, and is a man of deep personal integrity, considering his highest duty to be to the truth. Picard is a living legend in Starfleet, his love of history and regard for tradition girding him as he helps mold the future of the Galaxy.
Jean-Luc Picard spent his entire life in the pursuit of a Starfleet career, and eventually graduated from Starfleet Academy at the top of his class. He was an impulsive and undisciplined young officer, and this led to a near-fatal fight with three Nausicaans and an injury to his heart so severe he required a bionic repacement. This incident helped mold him into the studious and reflective man he would become, someone who realizes how fragile life is.
Picard rose through the ranks to become captain of the U.S.S. Stargazer. Nine years after the loss of that vessel in battle, he assumed command of the Enterprise-D. He has led the Enterprise on many extroardinary adventures, charting new planets and encountering strange alien beings ssuch as Q, Picard’s most memorable nemisis. […]
Picard is truly a Renaisance Man, with a wide variety of interests. He loves Shakespeare, music, fencing, and is a skilled horseman. He has an avid interest in archaelogy, and holds high regard for the unique beliefs and ways of life of different cultures. He is a passionate believer in and defender of the values of the Federation, and is willing to give up his life to uphold the Prime Directive.”

Garth of Izar from the episode “Whom God’s Destroy” in the original series
“It is a rare breed of individual who becomes a starship captain - possessing not only the required knowledge, instince and experience, but a certain vision and fortitude of spirit that sets them apart from all others. Thus, it is all the more tragic when such a person falls from grace, especialls in the case of Garth of Izar, a legendary captain who sinks into the depths of insanity. Captain Kirk encounters his longtime hero when he delivers revolutionary new medicine to Elba II, where the Federation maintains an asylum for the few criminally insane of the galaxy. Garth, now an inmate at the asylum, captures Kirk and Mr. Spock and puts a plan into motion to gain control of the U.S.S. Enterprise and beomre master of the universe.”
“Garth was the finest student at Starfleet Academy, and the model for all other captains in Starfleet. Garth sustained horrible injuries in an accident, and was treated on Antos IV, where he learned a technique of cellular metamorphosis that allows him to assume any shape at will. The accident left Garth mentally unhinged, and he tried to kill the entire Antosian race. Fath’s crew mutinied at this order, and the Captain was confined on Elba II. He intends to pose as Kirk and use the Enterprise to hunt down and destroy his mutinous former crew. He even believes he can use the small handful of other inmates to amass an entire fleet of ship and gain limitless power and wealth.
Demanding to be reffered to as Lord Garth, wearing a tattered fur robe and several medallions and pins, Garth’s demeanor can change from calm civility to murderous rage in an instant. Garth tortures Kirk to discover the code phrase that will allow him access to the Enterprise, and impersonates Spock when that fails. He even murders his insane Orion consort Marta as ‘entertainment.’
Garth stages a crude coronation of himself as master of the universe, and makes Kirk his crown prince and heir apparent. As Spock attempts a rescue, Garth changes his form into Kirk, but Spock sees through the disguise and stuns Garth. Afterthe other inmates are subdued, Garth is given the treatment he needs and begin his recovery, but without any memory of meeting Kirk.”

The Tholian Web

  • Scott: What is it?
  • McCoy: It's a deluded theragen derivative.
  • Spock: Theragen? A nerve gas used by the Klingons.
  • Scott: Aye, and deadly, too! What're you thinking' of, Doc? Ya tryin' to kill us all?
  • Spock: If I remember correctly, it caused fatality only when used in pure form.
  • McCoy: That's right. And in this derivative, mixed with alchohol, it merely deadens certain nerve inputs to the brain.
  • Scott: Oh, well, any decent brand o' Scotch'll do that.
Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott
“Montgomery Scott is the proverbial mechanical miracle worker who can fix anything - from a burned-out circuit to a failing warp engine - with only a hair clip and a wad of gum. His expertise has saved the original U.S.S. Enterprise from destruction more times than even Captain James T. Kirk would care to admit.”
“All Scott ever wanted was to be an engineer, so in 2240 he enrolled in Starfleet academy as an engineering major. After his graduation in 2244, he served on several ships at engineering posts before his promotion to Chief Engineer aboard the enterprise, where he served first under Captain Christopher Pike, then James Kirk.
Scott displays a single-minded dedication when it comes to the Enterprise. He is proud, even possessive of the starship, so much so that he once started a bar brawl with some Klingons on Space Station K-7 when they called the Enterprise a garbage scow. Scott is equally fierce in his loyalty to friends and has risked his life more than once for his comrades.”
Did you know that “Scotty reads technical journals for relaxation, and on ceremonial occasions when the rest of the Enterprise officers wear dress uniforms, Mr. Scott often wears a traditional Scottish kilt.”
